DBT Skills for Individuals
Do you wish you had better control over your emotions?
Do you find yourself often over reacting to something and later feeling regret?
DBT Skills will help! DBT therapy is effective for children, adolescents, and adults and is focused on enhancing your capabilities by teaching you behavioral skills and helping you identify and build on your strengths to increase self-confidence.
Unless you are already familiar with DBT, clients and parents often ask us, “What is DBT?” Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy developed by Marsha M. Linehan in the 1980’s that is often more helpful than other psychotherapies alone to successfully decrease and manage problems associated with very intense emotion. “Dialectical” means that two opposing ideas can be true at the same time. DBT teaches behavioral skills to help you to manage stress more effectively, to help you better handle your emotions, and to improve upon your relationships with other people.
We offer individual opportunities to learn these skills in a way that will be helpful from the first session. You will feel empowered as you start successfully making it through situations that were difficult for you to deal with in the past.
Here are a few of the problems that DBT skills empower you to improve:
- Anxiety/Impulsiveness
- Controlling Anger/Rage
- Chronic Depression
- Eating Disorders
- Self-harm Behaviors
- Suicidal Thinking
